October Playlist

Man...I'm feeling like such a lover this month. A loveless lover, though. A loveless lover who can't help but to love sitting around listening to the love that other lovers are experiencing... and then feeling alone once the song goes off. And I realize that those lovers are off somewhere loving. And I'm here. Alone. The soundtrack to October is as such...

"How much more can one heart take?
Can something broken find new ways to break?
She was my heaven, but for heaven's sake
I did all I could do to please her-
But her heart must have, like, amnesia
She took my soul as well as my Visa..."

"How Could She Do It" by Eric Roberson

1)"What I'd Do" by Conya Doss from Still "I gotta know that you're okay, I think about you way too much..."

2)"Anything (to Get Your Attention)" by Van Hunt from Van Hunt "Paint my face on your bedroom wall- I'll call my name, up and down the hall..."

3)"Take Me Away" by John Legend from Evolver "Take me somewhere where love is like breathing..."

4)"Looking for Love" by Vikter Duplaix "All I'm asking for is, somebody down for good love and big fun- Who likes to kiss me- But I keep catching tricky ones..."

5)"Tragic Inevitability" by Lalah Hathaway from Self Portrait "Deep in my soul it hurts me so, and I will not be consoled. What will be, will be..."

6) "Good Mourning" by India.Arie from Testimony Vol. 1... "I prayed for God's will to be done- The very next day you were gone..."

7)OLD SCHOOL (kinda) JOINT: "Blind to It All" by Gary Taylor from Square One "Never thinking I could ever lose- That's the mind of a fool..."

8)OLD, OLD SCHOOL: "Misdemeanor" by the Sylvers- check 'em out!! They're like the Jackson 5, but with brothers and sisters. This beat is SICK. Some hip-hop song sampled it, I forgot which song, though.

9) "What in the World" by Jon B from Stronger Everyday "Some times you got me feeling like I got a personal angel- But I've learned from the past to keep my expectations low..."

10) "Snowflakes" by Angie Stone from Mahogany Soul "I still believe all the things you said, though I could see all the flowers are dead..."

Priorities Change When You're #Adulting

Hey everyone! I wanted to check in for a quick second to let you know what I've been up to. I know the wedding posts have been non-existent for a while. I can explain! While yes, the wedding is still on, something else has been taking up my time and attention--buying a house! I'm pleased to announce that I just purchased my first home yesterday. Yay! It's been a long process and it's far from over. Now that I've purchased the house, we will need to start the renovations. The renovations may take a couple of months and we won't be moving into the new house until they are done. I'll be visiting the house this weekend to take some "before pics." I plan to document the whole renovation process. More to come. Anywho, after the renovations are done and we're moved into our new home, the wedding planning will resume. Needless to say, we made the adult decision to push back the wedding to Spring of 2019. That way, we'll have more time to plan...

Obsessing Over Wedding Music, Part 1

Those that know me will understand why it's fitting for my first real wedding blog post to be about music. The O'Jays said it best-- I love music . I may not have always known what my wedding colors would be, or what type of venue I wanted my reception to be at, or hell, even who my groom would be. But I always knew that the music at my wedding would be ON POINT. Some jazz and neo-soul to start the night off with a mellow, romantic vibe. Throw in some 80s and 90s slow jams and bangers. Some 2000s hip-hop and R&B. Some acid jazz. Other stuff that doesn't fit into a genre that I can identify. And now to pay homage to my new city, some house music and other classic Chi-Town tracks. It will be a mash of well-known, some slightly familiar, and some "I don't know what this is, but I LIKE!" So with all that pressure, it's no wonder that I had trouble falling asleep on Friday night. I had a lot on my mind. I kept thinking about music. So inst...

Some of My Favorite Winter 2013/2014 Pics

This winter was a record-breaking winter--literally!! We saw more subzero days and suffered through more inches of snow than this city has seen in decades...I wish I had more winter pictures, but 1) Unfortunately, most of my pictures were irretrievably deleted by my phone (major sad face) and 2) I was too cold most of the time to pull out my camera and take pictures.  Nevertheless, here are a few that I compiled throughout the season. I think this was the first time I saw a subzero temperature...this was way back in November, I think. Before it was officially winter! My job made sure that our sidewalks were always shoveled (thank you for that!), but that snow began to pile up... A subzero day in Chicago is NO JOKE. Not only is the physical temperature less than zero, but the wind chill will decrease the temperature by another 20- 30 degrees. There's no such thing as being cute in this weather. You're trying to stay alive! Thermals, Ugg boots, hand warm...
